Ranging from young toddlers who do not yet have a full set of teeth to chew, all the way through to much older people who might have trouble swallowing, chewing, fully digesting, or breaking down more solid foods.
And for those who don’t have these issues, it’s also sometimes just nice to enjoy food with that smooth pureed texture, perhaps as a contrast to other items on the plate.
Either way, the solution is to get yourself the best possible equipment. And for that, you’ve certainly come to the right place.
We’ve been checking out some of the best blenders out on the market today, and have been assessing how well suited they are to puree foods.

Let’s dive in!
OUR TOP PICK
This blender, from top brand Hamilton Beach is simply flying off the shelves. It’s incredibly popular.
And after earning well over 5,700 individual customer ratings through Amazon, the average customer rating comes in at an impressive 4 and a half stars out of 5. Excellent feedback.
There are 14 different blending options to choose from, starting with milkshake mix, and going all the way to crushing ice (we love that feature!). It can also chop, whip, make smoothies, and grate. All thanks to Hamilton Beach’s patented Ice Sabre blades.
What we love about the most is just how easy it is to use. There’s just the one jar for blending and pureeing, and no having to worry about which parts you can use to puree.
The buttons are clearly labeled, and once you’ve put your ingredients in and fixed the lid, all you have to do is press the button for the function you want.
Besides the blades, there’s another stand out feature - the wave action it uses to continuously pull your food mixture down into the blades.
There’s no having to stop and rearrange bits of food halfway through. So instead of getting lumps at the top, this food is pulled downward to deliver consistently smooth results throughout the mixture.
And that’s not all. It’s the glass jar has been thermal-shock tested to prove that it can withstand extreme temperature changes. So you can go from making iced drinks to making hot soups with no problem at all.
It’s quite powerful, offering 700 watts at peak power. It’s one of the highest wattages we’ve seen, most countertop blenders only stretch to 500 watts, while hand blenders are much less still. 700 watts is more than enough, and you won’t even need to set it to full power to puree your foods.
And it’s built to last - its motor has been tested to show it can work long enough to blend a whopping 8000 drinks.
You can buy it in regular stainless steel, or if you prefer in black. And it comes complete with a 3-year warranty.
It’s available at a very good price. A fraction in fact of what you might pay for a fancier brand like Vitamix.
- Excellent affordable price
- Wave action pulls food down
- Top, well-established brand
- Can handle temperature changes
- Comes with a 3-year warranty
- There have been mixed reviews about the pouring spout
We were very impressed when we checked out the customer feedback on this beauty - it’s earned a full 5 stars out of 5 on Amazon, even after well over 100 individual customer ratings.
But at a price like this, you wouldn’t expect anything less. But if it does look a little out of your budget, you could think about paying in installments, which is possible upon approval for the Amazon Rewards Visa Card.
It’s a very high-performance countertop blender, and although the exact wattage is not provided, what we did learn is that the blades can go to speeds of up to a whopping 210 miles per hour. How powerful is that!
You know your food is going to be perfectly pureed, with no nasty lumps to worry about whatsoever.
It’s incredibly easy to use, thanks to the intuitive LCD control panel and little red dial. Through this dial, you increase the blender’s speed as it moves through the 4 pre-programmed settings, including puree, smoothie, ice crush, and soup.
Then, with the pulse function too, in just one simple machine you can chop vegetables, whip cream, churn butter, and even grind grains. You can use the pulse function alongside any of the pre-programmed tasks.
And to ensure the ultimate in even blending and mixing, it features a two-piece emulsion cup that drizzles your liquid ingredients into the blender at the perfect pace.
Designed to be durable, it features an extra-large shatterproof jar, complete with hardened steel blades.
The jar is 100% BPA free, so it’s perfectly safe for using to make baby food.
It doesn’t take up too much space in your kitchen, and will even fit in cabinets that are smaller than standard. Plus it’s also fairly quiet for such a powerful machine.
It comes complete with not a 1-year, but a 5-year warranty - clearly built to last over the years.
- Blade speeds up to 210 mph
- 100% BPA free, safe for baby
- Extra-large capacity
- 5-year limited warranty
- Can pay in installments
- Premium product at a premium price (it’s even more expensive than the Vitamix blender that made our shortlist)
Sales of this blender have also been reaching into the thousands. And customer feedback has been very positive indeed, earning an average of 4 and a half stars on Amazon after well over 1000 individual ratings.
It comes as an entire set. You get the hand blender itself, a 600ml tall beaker, a large 500ml food grinder, and a whisk. This means you can stir, chop, blend and whisk, in one small set.
If you have some hard ingredients to puree, we recommend starting with the food grinder accessory first before you then use the blender to truly puree the food.
There are a whopping 16 different speed settings to choose from, simply select the one you want using the dial at the top of the device. Or alternatively, you can adjust the speed as you cook.
It offers 500 watts of power, which is excellent for a handheld blender and is actually comparable to what you’d expect for a countertop blender. This way you know it has the power to give really smooth results in your pureed food. Perfect for fussy eaters.
But the stand out feature has to be its special mixing head, which is both anti-spin and anti-splash. It reduces the suction which helps make it easy and efficient to use.
This is also helped by the multi-angle contact that the blade achieves with the ingredients to really boost the blending and pureeing process.
And we were also impressed with the service life of the blender - a staggering 5 times longer than most other blenders on the market.
The attachments are all BPA free, so you can rest assured that it’s safe to use for making baby food. And they’re all easy to disassemble and clean.
It comes complete with a 2-year warranty, which is reassuring.
Amazon occasionally has deals on this product - certainly worth a look.
- A bestseller with online retailers
- Comes with a food grinder & whisk
- Attachments are all BPA free
- Special mixing head
- 2-year warranty
- Some parts are not dishwasher safe
Now, this hand blender does not come as a set, but we think it’s still great value for money all the same. Lord knows we already have stacks of beakers, pitchers, and mixing bowls we can use it with right?
Not that you have to use beakers - it’s actually designed so that you can use them in cooking pots too. That’s thanks to its very slim size, and how there’s a protective blade guard to ensure that your pots don’t get scratched by it at all.
It does more than mix and blend your food, it can make smoothies, sauces, and soups, not to mention delicious purees. You can even crush ice with it.
It’s very powerful for a hand blender, packing a 300-watt punch it’s almost as powerful as a countertop blender.
It offers a whopping 12 different operating speeds to choose from, so you can tweak your blending and pureeing as you see fit, or you can whip up a spot of pureed food super quick. Plus, there’s also a turbo button to give your pureeing a real boost!
We love that the blade is dishwasher safe, so convenient, and so much safer than hand washing sharp objects. Also, the stainless steel exterior is easy to wipe down, should there be any splattered food.
But it’s not just the blender that the company has to offer. With the purchase of any Chefman product, you get to join Club Chefman and download the app where you can get video tutorials for hundreds of recipes for just about any meal or occasion.
It’s seen some excellent customer feedback, earning 4 and a half stars out of 5 on Amazon, even after about 1000 individual customer ratings.
- Very powerful for a hand blender
- 12 different speeds to choose from
- Gentle on your cooking pots
- Very easy to keep clean
- Join Club Chefman for free tutorials
- It’s a hand blender rather than a countertop blender
- Does not come as a set (it doesn’t need to)
Here’s another blender that’s been flying off the shelves. It’s a best seller with retailers in the hand blender category.
And customer feedback has been very good, earning a 4 and a half star average customer rating on Amazon, even after well over 3000 individual ratings.
In addition to getting the hand blender itself, it also comes with a food chopper, a 600ml beaker, an egg whisk, and a milk frother. What a great deal! There’s so much you can do with it, from making sauces to making whipped cream.
We love that all the attachments are entirely BPA free, this means it’s perfectly safe to use when preparing and pureeing baby food. And all the attachments are dishwasher safe. How convenient is that!
We also love how you can tweak the speed using a little dial at the top of the blender. There are 8 different speeds to choose from, and the manual helps to explain what speed setting to use for different concoctions.
Or if your food isn’t on there, you can simply start on the lowest speed setting, and gradually build up until you get the speed you need to puree your food.
Its thick stainless steel mixing wand with its 4 blades is highly efficient and will mix and puree your foods both evenly and smoothly.
It’s quite powerful for a hand blender, with its power coming in at 250 watts. That’s decidedly less than what you’d get with a countertop blender, but with this beauty, you can finely chop the foods first to make them that bit easier to puree with the blender attachment.
Amazon occasionally has deals on this product - certainly worth a look.
- Excellent value for money
- Includes chopper, whisk & frother
- 8 different speeds to choose from
- BPA free and safe for your baby
- Attachments are dishwasher safe
- Handheld rather than countertop
For those of you who don’t know, Vitamix is a high-end brand in mixers and blenders.
But unfortunately, they come at a high-end price, which is why we didn’t make this our number one pick. But if you have a sufficient budget, it’s certainly worth considering.
Elsewhere on a website, you’ll find some longer more detailed reviews on a range of Vitamix devices, and some direct comparisons between different Vitamix blenders.
But despite being such a high-end item, it’s surprisingly easy to use. There are just two switches and a dial to be concerned with. You can use the dial to select one out of 10 possible different speeds.
And, if you wish, you can boost the speed further still using the included accelerator tool, which lets you push foods down towards the blade, while the blender is blending. This saves you from having to physically push the lumpier foods down yourself, and it can really speed up the process.
This model is no longer a bestseller with online retailers currently, but it made our shortlist because it’s so good at pureeing foods, which, as we discuss in our buying guide later, is not something that all blenders can do.
As well as blend your foods, it can chop, grind, and most importantly puree. Giving you the versatility to make anything from thick salsa through to smooth drinks.
- Top high-end brand
- Very easy to use
- 10 speed settings
- Includes accelerator tool
- Premium product at a premium price
- Sometimes the item arrives in a damaged box, however, Vitamix maintains that the blender has not been used
Now, this is the most powerful blender on our shortlist. It has a wattage of a whopping 1,800 watts. Unbeatable power.
So you can be entirely confident that your foods will be very smoothly pureed, with no lumpy bits spoiling the texture.
You won’t get anywhere near this kind of power with a handheld immersion blender.
The top-grade stainless steel 8 blade system chops, pulverizes and liquefies everything in its path. You can make anything from salsa, crushed ice margaritas, dips and sauces, and of course purees.
But despite being so powerful, it’s not as loud as you might expect it to be.
The accompanying jar is extra large, with a high capacity. And better yet it’s also BPA-free, which means it's perfectly safe for using to make baby food.
It’s very easy to use, with just two switches, on/off and pulse, and a dial so you can adjust the speed to your liking.
With a price like this, you’d want a long warranty in the event of any issue - and you’ve got it. There’s a 5-year absolute protection warranty.
It’s a bestseller with online retailers and has earned an average customer rating on Amazon of 4 and a half stars out of 5 - even after well over 1000 individual customer ratings.
- Extremely powerful, 1800 watts
- Extra-large, with a high capacity
- BPA-free, safe for baby food
- 5-year absolute protection warranty
- Bestseller & highly recommended
- Somewhat expensive, but not the most expensive on our shortlist
Best Blender To Puree Food Buying Guide
As promised here’s your buying guide!
Blending versus Pureeing
It’s important to note at this point that blending foods is not the same as pureeing them. Blending is about mixing foods together, whereas pureeing in contrast is more about crushing or grinding food into a puree.
That doesn’t mean you can’t puree foods with certain blenders, however. If that were the case, we wouldn’t have written this article. But you do have to select an appropriate one, as not all blenders can actually puree your foods.
Hand Blender versus Countertop Blender
Countertop blenders are generally somewhat more powerful than handheld immersion blenders. This means that they can create creamier purees and smoother soups. Plus you don’t have to worry about hand fatigue.
On the other hand, however, they take up more storage space and are more difficult to clean.
We were careful to include both types of blender in our shortlist of 7.
What to look for in a blender for pureeing food
Easy to Use
Sometimes blenders and similar machines can be quite overcomplicated, with several different parts and unfamiliar settings.
So it’s nice to find one that is quite straightforward and simple to use, rather than one that takes months of getting used to.
Sometimes you might like to try mixing food rather than puree it all the time.
For example, you might want to try making a soup or making some ice cream, or some juice.
Depending on how many people you’re cooking for, you might want to think about having a blender with plenty of capacity, perhaps if you’re cooking for the entire family.
Sometimes a single-serving blender is not quite enough.
Power / Wattage
The higher the machine’s wattage, the more power goes into blending and pureeing the foods.
This is important when pureeing with more fibrous foods that are more difficult to break down and make smooth.
Value for Money
Blenders can really vary quite considerably in price, from as little as $25 to as much as $400. So it pays to shop around. Our advice when shopping for anything online is to make a note of the prices as you go along.
We would argue that all of the blenders that made our shortlist are all good value for money. But for the particularly budget-conscious amongst you, the most affordable blender that made our shortlist was our number pick, the,
Alternatives to Blenders
There are several ways to puree foods without the use of a blender. The most effective way to puree foods is with a food processor.
You may also want to consider mashing foods, using a juicer or using a soup maker.
