Best Juicers for Limes to Use in 2022

Key lime pie, sour cream, strawberry daiquiris – all amazing, all including the juice of a humble citrus called the lime. In fact, there are very few recipes that don’t benefit from a splash of citrus juice. Unfortunately, most people will cut their fruit in half, squeeze 10% of the juice out and throw the rest in the bin.

Good citrus juicers grant access to 100% of the juice so next to nothing is wasted, giving you the most for your money and giving your dish more of a refreshing kick. The best juicer for limes is definitely a citrus juicer, which is specifically designed to extract the juice and pulp from oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits … any citrus fruit really!

You can get manual citrus juicer, but limes tend to be smaller and firmer than other fruits that can be used with these.

While not impossible, manual juicers will take much longer than electronic models and might give you quite the wrist-ache! Most citrus juicers have a rounded, rigid dome which jams into the halved citrus and forces all the insides out.

Manual juicers will have a handle so you can get to work on your wrist muscles, whereas electric models will have a motor which spins the dome to really work every last scrap out of the skin. Sounds slightly intimidating, but once you reap the rewards of your first juiced lime, you won’t be able to stop. Don’t blame us when you have jars stacked to the ceiling of green liquidy goodness!

Straying from the norm of our list, Breville push the boundaries and have created a high-end Citrus Press which enables you to juice like a pro. Any size fruit doesn’t stand a chance with this juicer, as the patented Quadra-Fin acid-resistant cone maximizes the extraction of all citrus fruits.

Best Juicers for Limes – Buyer’s Guide

Material

As with most things, there’s not much point buying something that’s going to break after a couple of uses. This is why the material of your new citrus juicer is important.

Limes are a tough fruit to juice manually, suggesting that your electric juicer has its work cut out with this small, green fruit which is why you should look for a juicer made from either durable metal like stainless steel or a well made plastic.

Depending on your budget, you may even opt for a more expensive metal. Decide how often you’re likely to use your lime juicer and decide whether it’s worth investing in a more expensive material or not.

Ease of Use

Despite your lime juice needs, no one wants to be fiddling about with a complicated juicer that you can’t get to work. You may as well be using a manual one and getting a numb wrist. This is why it’s important to find a juicer with comfortable and well made parts to ensure your juicing runs smoothly.

Another thing to consider is how easy the appliance is to clean. If you’re looking to juice your citrus more often than once a week, you’re not going to want to be put off by the burdening task of cleaning the juicer after you use it.

Look for a model which can be dishwashed and easily wiped clean.

The best lime juicers will have an easy way to remove the wasted pulp and peel from the model, such as a basket or compartment that can simply be taken off. Bear in mind how easy to use the juicer is before you bite the bullet.

Size

The size is another important factor to consider. For starters, the size of the unit depends on the size of your kitchen and how much countertop room you have to spare. A large commercial citrus juicer may not be the best option to go for if you live in a quaint studio.

Also, the juice container should be big enough to fit the amount of juice you desire in, so you don’t have to keep emptying and rebuilding your juicer. A transparent container will show you how much juice you’ve already made and will help you know when to stop.

Limes are typically smaller than other citrus fruits, so you don’t have to worry about the container being too big just for this use, but if you’re going to be juicing bigger grapefruits and oranges then you should ensure you get a decently sized model.

Safety

Whilst unlikely that any citrus juicers will be overly dangerous, there is always a risk with a quick spinning object near to your hand. Look for safety features and reviews on how quickly the model heats up.

No one wants an overheating juicer, so check up on previous users for horror stories and practice good safety.

Pulp

Citrus juicers produce a load of pulp, and it’s often very wet pulp. Wet pulp means that there’s still lots of juice within it that’s going to be wasted, so look for a juicer which aims to produce drier pulp.

Some juicers come with an option for the pulp to be spun quickly to remove the juice. Alternatively, you could just put the pulp back into the juice, not waste any of it and have a super pulpy juice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best way to juice a lime?

Limes are tough little fruits that hold a lot of pulp and juice in one tiny shell. For this reason, juicing them can be an effort, so an electric juicer will take a lot of the work off of your poor wrists. Halve the lime, press it down on a citrus juicer and watch the magic happen. Repeat until you have your desired lime juice quantity.

How does an electric citrus juicer work?

An electric citrus juicer works differently to a normal juicer as it’s designed to strip the juice and pulp out from the bowl of peel on the outside of the citrus fruit. Instead of wasting time peeling potentially resisting rinds off of limes, a citrus juicer will just squeeze every possible ounce of squishy flesh from the fruit by using a patterned dome on a motor.

The motor spins the dome quickly and when half of a fruit is digging into it, the dome whizzes off the pulp and juice. This usually then filters through a basket which contains the pulp and the juice collects in the container or glass beneath.

You’ll either have to hold the fruit down on the dome or purchase a model with a handle.

Why would you want to juice limes?

Lime juice is a great ingredient to use when cooking or baking as it adds an invigorating kick to your dish. Lime compliments savory flavors like ginger and mint perfectly, whilst also going great with sweeter flavors such as grape, raspberry and green apple.

Can you juice an apple in a citrus juicer?

Unfortunately not. Masticating and centrifugal juicers are excellent options for if you want to juice other fruits as well as citrus, however citrus juicers are specifically designed for only citrus fruits such as limes, lemons, oranges and grapefruits.

You can juice citrus fruits in other types of juicers, however make sure you peel them first as the peel could damage the inner workings.
