1. Best Overall – IKTCH 36″ 900 CFM
The IKTCH 36″ 900 CFM is one of the most powerful stainless steel options on this list. With a CFM of 900, you’ll have no problem ventilating your kitchen properly – even when cooking food that produces lots of fumes at high temperatures.
In fact, it’s only beaten in power by the FOTILE 30″, but comes in at a fraction of the cost. So if you’re looking for maximum power on a minimal budget, this is the stainless steel hood for gas stoves for you!
This model comes with integrated LED lights making it easy to see while cooking, and has a stainless steel finish, matching the style of a professional restaurant. Not only does this stainless steel finish look great, but it ensures long-term durability too.
Despite the power of the fan, IKTCH has managed to keep noise output impressively low. At its max speed, the stainless steel device only produces around 65 dB of noise. By switching to the other speed settings, you can get the noise down to just 40 dB.
The best stainless steel hoods for gas stoves have a balance of great power and low noise output. The IKTCH is the second most powerful and one of the quietest on this list.
This IKTCH stainless steel hood for gas stoves is an excellent product that absolutely deserves a place on this list. In fact, thanks to the stainless steel device’s fantastic build quality and brilliant features, I had no choice but to give it my “Best Overall” rating. Definitely one to consider!
Pros
- Powerful: 900 CFM means that it’ll have no problem keeping your kitchen air quality fresh and clean.
- LED lights: Integrated LED lights allow you to see what you’re doing while cooking.
- 3-speed navigation: Simple controls enable you to adjust the settings to your preference with ease.
Cons
- Noise: The increased power does come at the cost of being a slightly noisier hood.
IKTCH 36
2. Quietest Option – Ancona Inserta Chef 28″ 600 Hood
The next product I have for you on this list of the best range hoods for gas stove is the Inserta hood from Ancona. This stainless steel device is a popular option amongst keen cooks in the kitchen due to its impressive feature set and versatile nature.
As one of my best hoods for gas stove, this ducted hood comes with smart electronic controls that allow you to adjust settings to match the style of cooking that day and has a stainless steel finish that doesn’t attract grease and grime. If you do happen to splash some food onto the ducted hood, you can quickly wipe it down with a wet cloth.
With only 38 dB, this is the quietest stainless steel hood on the list! There are a couple of others that are close, but it’s about 40% less sound than most of the options.
You get up to 600 CFM of suction power with the Ancona, which is more than enough for a standard kitchen. The speed can be cycled between three different settings depending on the fume levels in the room.
It’s worth bearing in mind that this fan is designed to be inserted into an existing hood cover or overhead cabinet space. For this reason, it’s probably not the best option for anyone needing an all-in-one solution. However, if you’re looking to replace an old fan, the Ancona Inserta is one to consider.
This is the best buy if you’re looking for a fan with all the bells and whistles but minimum fuss – the CIARRA 30″ might have touch controls, but the Ancona Inserta’s are much easier to use.
Pros
- 3-speed electronic controls: Easy to operate and has the option to continue ventilation for a set time after cooking.
- Sleek design: Made from steel, this hood fits perfectly around existing kitchen cabinets.
- 5-layer filter: 5-layer mesh made from aluminum allows for efficient filtration of harmful residues.
Cons
- Noise: This gas stove hood has a CFM of 600, which comes at the price of being slightly louder than other hoods.

3. Most Affordable – Broan-NuTone 36″
The Broan-NuTone 36” under-cabinet insert is a discrete wall mounted hood alternative that provides great ventilation without taking up a large part of your kitchen. Wall mounted hoods like this are ideal for those looking for a more simple style of kitchen and comes with 3-speed controls to adjust suction power.
As one of the best under-cabinet hoods for gas stove, it also comes with an integrated filter that reduces the build-up of bacteria while cooking. These filters are dishwasher safe, making maintenance an absolute breeze. In fact, the whole device is easy to keep clean – the main body can be simply wiped down whenever grime starts to build up.
This wall mounted hood is relatively low-powered compared to some of the competition, but it has enough suction to comfortably serve small and medium-sized kitchens. Considering the fact that an under-cabinet hood is usually used in small kitchens anyway, there’s no reason to mark Broan-NuTone wall mounted hood models down in this category. It’s still up there as perhaps the best range hoods for gas stoves.
Pros
- Super affordable: This is by far the cheapest on the list and it’s still great quality.
- Non-stick bottom: This makes cleaning and maintenance a lot easier after cooking.

4. Best Appearance – AKDY 30″
The AKDY 30” island range hood has all the specifications that you would want to keep toxic fumes out of your gas stove while maintaining a sleek and elegant finish. What’s more, it’s made from sturdy steel and has a black paint finish, keeping your kitchen safe in style.
You might not think the aesthetics are an important aspect of a steel gas stove hood, but the truth is, you want to be choosing a hood that seamlessly blends in with your kitchen space. I really love the appearance of this particular hood, which is why I gave it my “Best Looks” award. The best exhaust fan for gas stove doesn’t have to be unattractive!

It’s without a doubt the best buy if you’re looking to make a statement with your hood rather than hiding it away under a cabinet! It is considerably less powerful than the likes of the IKTCH 36″, but still plenty powerful enough for most home cooks.
Pros
- Digital control: This product comes with a digital control panel making it easy to use and allowing you to adjust the settings to your preference.
- 400 CFM: A CFM of 400 will provide sufficient ventilation to keep any nasty chemicals produced while cooking out of the kitchen.

AKDY 30
5. Best Built-In Lighting – Broan-NuTone 30″
The Broan-NuTone 30” has several impressive features that make it a strong contender in this list. This gas stove hood is powerful enough to adequately ventilate your kitchen, keeping your family safe while cooking, and can be converted into a ducted or ductless hood
In addition to this, the ductless range hood comes for gas stove with powerful LED lights that illuminate your workspace so you can clearly see while cooking. Good lighting is a super important feature of a great gas range hood, so make sure to consider it when choosing which one to buy. It’s much better at lighting than the Broan-NuTone 36″, which uses halogen bulbs.
Broan-NuTone is one of the leading names in the gas stove fan world. They don’t just produce fans for gas stove hoods, but they also make bathroom extractors too. Thanks to this expertise, Broan-NuTone knows exactly how to keep the noise level to a minimum – with this gas stove range hood, the output never gets above 60 decibels.
The fan can be adjusted to three different speed settings, offering fine control over the suction power. Although a max power of 450 CFM might not sound that high, it’s more than enough to quickly clear out smoke and odors from a kitchen.
This Broan-NuTone product is yet another gas stove hood that I have no hesitation in recommending. It’s absolutely perfect for larger kitchens that have plenty of space above the hob for the steel chimney. It’s one of the best hoods for gas stove money can buy!
Pros
- Adequate power: 450 CFM allows for the removal of harmful contaminants in your kitchen to maintain a safe environment while cooking.
- Integrated LED lighting: Impressive LEDs make it easy to see when cooking and are controlled with a simple button.
- Convertible installation: This gas stove hood can be installed as either a ductless gas stove hood or ducted gas stove range hood.

6. Best For Easy Cleaning – Cosmo 24″
The Cosmo 24” uses charcoal filters to neutralize harmful gasses created while cooking. Compared to many of the other models on this list, this gas stove hood is quieter while in operation, which is ideal for those who don’t want a noisy kitchen.
It also comes with removable screens to make the cleaning up process a lot easier. In fact, I’d go as far to say that the removable filters featured here are some of the best on the market. All you have to do is throw them in the dishwasher to keep them in good condition.
Performance-wise, the Cosmo gas hood keeps up with the best in the wall-mount category. You can expect to get around 220 CFM of power out of this device at its max, which is pretty much the industry standard.
In addition, this Cosmo hood is towards the more affordable end of the price spectrum. To get this kind of performance and design from a budget product is really impressive.
In short, I love this hood and would encourage everyone to consider it! I love the Cosmo brand; the fact that this model is as simple to clean and maintain as the Cosmo 30″ island hood is an added bonus.
Pros
- Charcoal filters: This gas range comes with charcoal filters to increase its filtration ability.
- Quiet operation: During operation, this product produces between 47-57 decibels of sound.
- Removable screens: The ability to remove the screen makes cleaning a lot simpler.

7. Great design – CIARRA 30″ Black GasRange Hood
The Ciarra 30” black range hood has an impressive black finish and is made from cast aluminum. This hood has the flexible option of being converted into a ductless system if your kitchen doesn’t have the capacity for the installation of a ventilation system.
One of the biggest selling points here is undoubtedly the device’s low noise output. Even at the max speed, the fan stays below 60 decibels. There’s nothing less relaxing than being in a kitchen with a super loud extractor fan, so it’s great that this hood won’t have that effect. Compared to the likes of the AKDY 30″, you’ll barely notice it’s on!
With just a few buttons to operate this gas range hood, you’ll be able to adjust the settings to your preference with no hassle. Despite the simplicity, you get three different fans speeds to choose from, giving you fine control over the level of suction.
Like all good hoods, this CIARRA model features bright LED lighting to illuminate your cooking space. All of these features combine into a hood that is practical, effective, and that looks great too – it could just be the best ductless hoods for gas stove.
Pros
- Powerful and quiet: Offers powerful ventilation with little noise pollution.
- User-friendly design: Simple buttons make it very easy to control and adjust settings.
- Durable motor system: The cast aluminum motor makes for a sturdy ventilation system.

The device is operated via responsive touch controls on the front LED screen. From here, you can adjust the fan speed and the lighting. The LED screen also features a digital clock, which is always handy in the kitchen.
It offers a similar CFM value as my other Cosmo hood, at #5 on my list above.

Cosmo 30
9. Most Powerful – FOTILE 30″ Under-Cabinet or Wall-Mount Range Hood
The FOTILE 30” wall-mount or under-cabinet range hood has a unique design that has powerful ventilation capabilities and relatively low noise pollution. It can be used as a wall-mounted or under-cabinet range hood, which is why I gave the product my “Best Versatility” award.
Another impressive feature of this device is the integrated smart technology that allows you to operate the hood with a wave of a hand. Perfect if you’ve been handling food and want to maintain a sterile environment. It’s much easier to use than the touch controls of the CIARRA 30″.
If you’re looking for a hood that really packs a punch, then this FOTILE product could well be the one for you. With a double impeller ventilation setup, the fan is able to produce the power equivalent of 1000 CFM. This truly incredible performance is a reason in itself to pick up this gas range hood!
In fact, if you’re looking for power alone, there’s no beating this hood! It offers more than double the power of the Cosmo 24″ and the Broan-NuTone 30″.
The downside is that this hood is the most expensive on the list. It’s 50% more than the second most expensive and almost triple the cost of the average unit.
Pros
- Powerful and Quiet: This gas range boasts a powerful extraction with little noise.
- Smart technology: You can operate this gas range with the wave of a hand through built-in free-hand technology.
- Baffle filter: The clever filtration system of stainless steel baffle filters allows this hood range to separate up to 92% of oil and toxic fumes.
Cons
- Lighting: Some reviewers have had some problems with the lighting.

What Kind Do You Need for Your Kitchen?
Before you get shopping, you need to figure out what kind of range you actually need. No other guides go into as much detail as I so here you go.
Hoods aren’t like an air fryer or coffee machine that you can just stick on your counter.
You actually don’t have much of a choice because your kitchen is built with specific requirements for what kind of hoods you can install.
- Type of range hood
- Ducted hoods vs ductless
- Size of the vent hoods
The most popular hoods are under-cabinet + ducted in 30 or 36 inches. If you have a larger kitchen, then you could have island hoods or mount, which is probably ducted.

Best Range Hoods: Buyers’ Guide
Now that you’ve got a better understanding of the different types of the best range hoods. There are a few other things you might want to think about.
Below, I’ll discuss some of the most important features of a hood to consider before purchasing a certain type and model.
Power (CFM, or Cubic Feet per Minute)
As mentioned, CFM stands for cubic feet per minute – it’s arguably one of the most important stats to look at when choosing the right hood for you.
This statistic represents the power of the vent hood range and therefore directly shows how much air will be drawn in per minute. The higher the CFM, the less contaminated air is created while cooking to escape into your kitchen.
There are a few standards that you should be aware of when selecting the right range hood. The average gas stove requires a CFM of around 600 to 1000, which is thought to provide sufficient ventilation for your home.
It’s worth getting a professional opinion if you think that your gas stove might require a hood with a higher than normal CFM.
As you can see, the FOTILE 30″ is the most powerful hood on my list with 1000 CFM. It comes in at a super low 38 decibels, which makes it one of the quietest hoods as well. If power is your priority, this is a no-brainer.
Noise Level (Decibels)
Every hood will produce some level of noise, but some specific models are quieter than others. Most hoods produce around 60-70 decibels of noise, and even the best ductless hood tend to be louder than ducted types.
As you can see, the Ancona Inserta Chef is the quietest range hood on my list. It comes in at an impressively low 38 decibels and is 40-50% lower than most of the other hoods on the list.
Sizes
When selecting the right range hood for you, you need to choose one that has a vent hood size sufficient enough to collect the fumes created while cooking.
How Do I Know What Size Range Hood I Need?
You should aim for a range hood that is at least 6 inches larger than the size of your gas stove for your indoor kitchen. If the gas stove is outside, then you will want a range hood that is 3 inches larger than your range.
You want the vent hoods to run a few inches past the width of your cooktop.
If you have an under-cabinet or mount, then you really can’t go bigger or smaller than what you already have in place. The easiest thing to do is just measure your current range hood and buy the same size.
If building a kitchen from scratch, then you’ll want to add about 3 inches to your stovetop length.
If your stovetop measures 30 inches like mine, then you’d want to buy a 36 inch range hood.
A 5 top burner takes up more space, so you’ll probably need to get a bigger range hood, like a 40 or 48in.
Once you’ve measured the stove, next, measure your range hood. The range hood should measure several inches wider than the stove
Three Types of Filters
Filters exist in both ducted and ductless hoods and function to neutralize harmful chemicals and gasses created while cooking. They work by capturing the toxic fumes which undergo a chemical reaction to make the air safe to breathe again.
- Baffle Filters: Baffle filters are usually created as stainless steel baffle filters or aluminum and have recently gained popularity as a favorite among most hoods in both residential and commercial environments. The reason for this is the optimal grease filtration that the stainless steel baffle filters can achieve, thus reducing the risk of fires. This is due to the ability of stainless steel baffle filters to prevent large flames from entering the ventilation system.
- Mesh Filters: The mesh filter is another option that can be found in quite a lot of hoods. They are usually made of multiple layers of aluminum to form a mesh. Mesh filters are very light and is a common choice for ventilation systems found in household kitchens. When cooking, the toxic fumes are trapped by the mesh preventing the harmful gasses from escaping into the air that you breathe.
- Charcoal Filters: The charcoal filter is an additional filter that can be installed into modern gas stoves range hoods to provide extra protection from the harmful products that can be produced while cooking. They come in both single or multiple layers, which determine the effectiveness and durability of the filter. The more layers there are, the better the filter will be at trapping grease particles – so the longer it will last. Charcoal is used since it’s very good at absorbing the harmful gasses created while cooking. When the charcoal filter comes into contact with the gas pollutants, it causes them to stick to the charcoal. This keeps the kitchen environment safe to be in for long periods of time and reduces the smell caused by cooking.
5 Types Of Gas Stoves Hoods
There is no such thing as a singular best-range hood, for this reason, there are lots of different types of hoods for gas stoves available on the market, from wall mounted to microwave hoods.
There are gas stoves range hood designs for those that are keen on preparing dishes that produce lots of steam, cooking fumes, and smoke and there are other more common like microwave range hoods.
Below, I’ll take you through the variety of gas stoves hoods currently available on the gas stoves market so you can decide what design best suits your needs and the format of your kitchen.
1. Wall-Mount Range Hoods
Wall mount range hoods for a gas stove are connected to the wall directly above the gas stove. A wall mounted range hood uses a ventilation system that draws the cooking fumes and smoke created by the gas stove into a piping system that is released on the exterior wall of your house. This helps keep the air’s humidity in the kitchen low while cooking and filters out the toxic fumes, maintaining a safe environment.
You can also opt for ductless hoods for gas stoves – these look the same as the ducted version, except the air is filtered in the range hood to neutralize the harmful gasses and then flows back into the kitchen. However, they don’t reduce the humidity caused by cooking as it is the same air from the kitchen that is being reintroduced into the environment.
Some of the other benefits of the wall-mount hoods for gas stoves are that they provide a good source of overhead lighting while cooking when standing directly over the gas stove. They are also very easy to clean and provide style and elegance that can harmonize with the décor of your kitchen.
2. Under-Cabinet Range Hoods for a Gas Stove
Under-cabinet range hoods for gas stoves are usually installed beneath a kitchen cabinet and is a popular option for those who don’t have a big kitchen but still want something stylish that also provides good ventilation while cooking.
Much like wall-mount hood ranges for gas stoves, an under cabinet hood is positioned directly above the gas stove and essentially perform the same role as wall-mounted hood ranges and electric ranges, removing any toxic fumes created while cooking.
You can get both a ducted range hood and ductless under-cabinet range hood options. The ducted range hood is hooked up to a piping system that filters out the harmful gasses created while cooking through vents that lead outside, helping to reduce the humidity in the kitchen.
The ductless option of the under-cabinet range hoods for a gas stove looks the same as the ducted model but functions slightly differently. Instead of removing the fumes completely from the kitchen, the ductless under-cabinet range hood filters the air so that it’s safe to breathe and releases it back into the kitchen.
Check out my list of the best under-cabinet range hoods if this is the kind you need.
3. Island Range Hoods for Gas Stove
Fortunate enough to have a modern island counter in your kitchen? Island range hoods for gas stove might be perfect for you. Installed above an island where the cooking setup is located, island range hoods for gas stoves can really transform your kitchen. Due to its position, professional help may be required to install an island mount range hood.
When installing, it’s important to make sure that the distance between the gas stove and the range hood is correct. If it’s too far away, the ventilation of toxic fumes created while cooking may be compromised. Too close to the cooker, and you may find that it interferes with cooking, especially for taller people.
On average, the maximum recommended distance for the range hood to the kitchen island is around 80 centimeters. Of course, this may vary depending on your setup – so it’s a good idea to talk to a professional before going ahead and installing island mount hoods for gas stoves.
4. Range Hood Inserts
Already have a for a gas stove installed above your cooking area? A gas range hood insert for a gas stove might just be what you’re looking for to improve your kitchen air quality. Much like the name suggests, a range hood insert for a gas stove is an exhaust fan that’s installed in an existing hood for a gas stove.
The range hood inserts for a gas stove are also available if the necessary ventilation systems haven’t been previously installed. Instead of drawing in the toxic gases and expelling them outside, the contaminated air is taken in and neutralized using charcoal which is then safely released back into the kitchen.
5. Downdraft Range Hoods
So far, all of the range hoods for gas stove that have been covered are installed above the gas stove. However, a downdraft gas stove range hoods for gas stoves might not always be possible due to the layout of your kitchen, and you might need an alternative to the traditional range hood. This is where the downdraft gas stove range hood comes in. It sits just behind the gas stove and only pops up when you’re cooking.
There are some downsides of downdraft ventilation that you should be aware of. They might not be as effective as the overhead style of range hoods for gas stove simply because hot air rises. This means that you’re going to catch less of the steam and fumes with this type of gas stove range hood, although it can still be effective.
Often it’s the only option for homes with very high ceilings where it isn’t feasible to install an overhead range hood.
