Accessibility

We want this site to work for everyone.

This page says what we have actually done, and what we know is still not right. It is not a conformance certificate.

Our approach

Meal Prepify is a recipe site. If someone cannot read a step, follow an ingredient list with a screen reader, or enlarge the text enough to cook from it, the site has failed at its only job. We aim for the WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines as a working standard.

We are not going to claim full conformance, because we have a large archive going back to 2019 and we have not audited every page in it. What follows is honest about where we are.

What is in place

  • Semantic HTML structure, so headings, lists, and recipe steps are announced correctly by screen readers.
  • Keyboard navigation throughout, including the menu and the recipe cards, without a mouse.
  • Text that resizes with your browser or system settings without the layout collapsing.
  • Text and background colours checked against the WCAG AA contrast ratio.
  • Descriptive link text rather than “click here”.
  • Descriptive alt text on images in recent articles.

What we know is not fixed yet

Being straight with you about the gaps:

  • Older posts. Articles from the early years of the site have images with missing or unhelpful alt text. We fix these as we update posts, but the backlog is real.
  • Advertising. Ads on this site are served by a third-party platform. We do not control their markup and cannot guarantee individual ad units are accessible.
  • Embedded content. Videos, social embeds, and other third-party widgets are subject to whatever accessibility their own providers have built.

Tell us when something does not work

This is the part that actually matters. If you hit a page you cannot use, we would rather hear about it than have you leave.

Email info@mealprepify.com with the page address and what went wrong. Tell us what you were using — screen reader, browser, phone — if you can, since it helps us reproduce the problem. We respond within two business days and will tell you honestly whether and when we can fix it.

If a specific recipe or article is unusable for you and you want the content another way, ask and we will send it to you in plain text.

A note on accessibility overlays

We do not use an accessibility overlay or a floating accessibility widget on this site. Those tools are widely criticised by disabled users and by accessibility practitioners for interfering with the assistive technology people already use. We would rather fix the underlying markup, even though it is slower.
